Group Q Comets And Asteroids

The main difference between Comets and Asteroids is what they are made from. Asteroids are made of metals and rocky materials whereas comets are made up of ice, dust and rocky materials. Asteroids and Comets were formed early in the history of the solar system about 4.5 billion years ago.
Asteroids formed much closer to the Sun, where it was too warm for ices to remain solid. Comets formed farther from the Sun where ices would not melt. Comets which approach the Sun lose material with each orbit because some of their ice melts and vaporizes to form a tail.

Asteroids:Scientists have found more than 90K asteroids-rocky remains from the formation of the solar system about 4.6 billion years ago- in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter

Comets:Some chunky parts of ice and dust and are some of the least changing objects in space giving scientists a look into the past.

Asteriods are made of metals and rocky materials whereas comets are made up of dust and ice as well as rocky materials like asteroids. Currently, asteroids roam around outside of the asteroid belt.
