Lunar eclipse

A lunar eclipse comes after a solar eclipse. A lunar eclipse is when the moon goes in the shadow of the earth. There is only one type of lunar eclipse. The first total eclipse which occurs when the entire moon passes through the earths shadow. A partial eclipse takes place when only part of the moon passes the earths shadow.

Solar Eclipse

A solar eclipse is when the moon passes between the sun and moon and the moon partially or fully covers the sun. A solar eclipse only happens during a new moon. In a total eclipse the disk of the sun is fully obscured.In a partial eclipse the sun is partially obscured.

Frequency of eclipses

There will be 18 solar eclipses from 1996 - 2020 which will be a totl eclipse on some part of the earths surface.
For example there was a solar eclipse on the 11th of August 1999.

There are normally 3 lunar eclipses each year.In 2001 january 9,there was the beginning of a umbral phase visible.
