It depends on the postion of the moon and where it is in relation of the sun and earth, As u can see in the diagram above.
When the moon makes its way around the world we see bright parts of the moon in different angles. This depends where the earth is around the sun, this is called "phases" of the moon.

The phases of the moon are called: new moon, waxing cresent, first quater, waxing gibbous, full moon, wanning gibbous, last quarter, wanning cresent.
the phases are named after how much of the moon we can see.
