Group 1 The History Of Space Travel

Space. The final frountier. For years man has tried to rech it, to claim it and to descover what it holds.

The space race between Rusia and America was a race to get people into space. It was started by both contries capturing German V2 rocket parts when they took Germany at the end of WW2. From then on they made them bigger and greater until they became Space Rockets!

On the 12th April 1961, the Sovients won the first leg by launching the first man into Space, Yuri Gagarin. This annoyed the Americans and President Bush said that the Americans would put a man on Moon first and before the end of the Decade (1970). This they did on the 20th July, 1969 when Niel Armstrong stepped out of the Eagle and said his famous line: One small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind.
